Community Connect Social Hub

Building skills, confidence, and independence—together.

Welcome to Community Connect

Looking to make friends, learn a new hobby, or catch the bus to the shops on your own? You’re in the right place.

Our Increased Social & Community Participation groups are funded under the NDIS Capacity Building budget. That means we don’t just accompany you—we teach you the skills to participate more independently over time.

Plus, once a month, we head out on a full-day trip – a real-world adventure that brings all your new skills together in a fun, supportive environment.

What We Offer

Each session is designed to increase your ability to join in community, social, and recreational activities on your own terms.

Examples in our groups:

  • Ordering a coffee and paying independently

  • Asking someone to join an activity

  • Managing your own timetable for an outing

Your NDIS funding can be used for activities that build capability. In our group, that includes:

  • Hobby groups: Photography, board games, gardening

  • Sport coaching: Basketball, walking football, swimming

  • Art classes: Painting, pottery, music jam sessions

  • Public transport practice: Learning your local bus or train route safely

  • Monthly day trips: See below – a highlight everyone looks forward to!

We use mentoring and peer support to build social skills. Many of our participants tell us they feel less lonely and more connected to their local area.

Once a month, our group goes on a full-day adventure. This is where all the weekly skill-building pays off in a real-life setting.

Recent and upcoming day trips include:

  • Aquarium & waterfront lunch (practicing budgeting, ordering food)

  • Theme park visit (using public transport, navigating crowds)

  • National park hike & picnic (teamwork, planning ahead)

  • Theatre matinee show (social etiquette, managing schedules)

  • Ferry ride to a coastal town (multi-step travel, confidence building)

Why the monthly trip matters:

  • Consolidates skills learned in weekly sessions

  • Builds confidence in unfamiliar environments

  • Creates strong peer bonds and shared memories

  • A fun goal to work toward – motivation to keep learning
